Modeling Pan‐Arctic Peatland Carbon Dynamics Under Alternative Warming Scenarios
نویسندگان
چکیده
Peatlands store large amounts of carbon in terrestrial ecosystems and they are vulnerable to recent warming. The ongoing warming may change their sink capacity could reduce potential sequester carbon. In this study, we simulated peatland dynamics distinct future climate conditions using the peatland-vegetation model (LPJ-GUESS). study examined whether less pronounced further enhance buffer effects change. It also determined which trajectory balance would follow, what main drivers were, one dominate future. We found that peatlands will largely retain under scenario RCP2.6 RCP6.0. They projected shift from a carbon-neutral (5–10 gC m−2 yr−1) RCP8.5. Higher respiration rates net productivity warmer world leading reduction capacity.

Vascular plants promote ancient peatland carbon loss with climate warming
Northern peatlands have accumulated one third of the Earth's soil carbon stock since the last Ice Age. Rapid warming across northern biomes threatens to accelerate rates of peatland ecosystem respiration. Despite compensatory increases in net primary production, greater ecosystem respiration could signal the release of ancient, century- to millennia-old carbon from the peatland organic matter s...

In this paper we present a computational cognitive model of two-player interaction under different information conditions. In particular, the model aims at reproducing human behavior in a laboratory experiment based on repeated “Chicken Game”. This research shows that information availability deeply influences the strategies and cognitive mechanisms chosen by players and the resulting outcomes....
متن کاملPeatland geoengineering: an alternative approach to terrestrial carbon sequestration.
Terrestrial and oceanic ecosystems contribute almost equally to the sequestration of ca 50 per cent of anthropogenic CO(2) emissions, and already play a role in minimizing our impact on Earth's climate. On land, the majority of the sequestered carbon enters soil carbon stores. Almost one-third of that soil carbon can be found in peatlands, an area covering just 2-3% of the Earth's landmass. Pea...
متن کاملPersisting cold extremes under 21st‐century warming scenarios
[1] Analyses of climate model simulations and observations reveal that extreme cold events are likely to persist across each land‐continent even under 21st‐century warming scenarios. The grid‐based intensity, duration and frequency of cold extreme events are calculated annually through three indices: the coldest annual consecutive three‐day average of daily maximum temperature, the annual maxim...
متن کاملHow will Somali coastal upwelling evolve under future warming scenarios?
Somali upwelling system, the fifth in the world, presents some unique features compared with the other major upwelling systems: 1) it is a Western Boundary Upwelling System located near the Equator and 2) upwelling affects the moisture responsible for monsoon rainfall. The intensity of Somali coastal upwelling during summer was projected for the twenty first century by means of an ensemble of G...
